Tips and tricks for the search

Search & Find are the most important functions in a store - especially in a catalog with over 40 million products. Often it works right away, but sometimes it just won't work. Here we give you tips & tricks that go beyond an intuitive search.

  Quick search

Next to the Schweitzer logo (at the top of the header) you will find the quick search. Here you can make your entries in a search field – it couldn't be faster. Your search terms will be searched in many different fields: Author, description, EAN, year of publication, ISBN, ISSN, media type, series, keywords, title, subtitle and publisher.

It is recommended to use 2 to 4 search terms. With one term there are often too many hits and with 13 search terms there are no more hits. With the 4th letter, search suggestions are made and the number of hits with this search term is displayed.

  Filtering in the hit list

In the hit list, you can filter your search again with just a few clicks. Especially with the selection of media type and language you can quickly exclude many hits. But filtering by year or publisher is also possible here. Multiple selections are available in each area. A thematic filtering by classification is helpful if a term is used in different worlds. For example, "Java" is an island in Asia, but it is also a programming language: you can therefore filter by travel literature or computer science.

For lawyers and tax advisors, it is worth restricting your search to the "Vademecum" catalog, which contains books, journals, databases and Looseleaf services on the subjects of law and taxation. Schweitzer's Vademecum has served as a guide for over 100 years.

Advanced search

You will also find the entry point to this search at the top of the header. Here you can enter your terms in the respective search fields, which can then be used for targeted searches. For example, searching with "Peter Lustig" in the author field finds about 60 hits, while "Peter Lustig" in the quick search finds almost 3,000 articles. This way, the search often reaches its goal faster, even if the Advanced Search form looks like a detour at first. In the following, we will give you a few tips & tricks for the individual search fields:

  References between products

In the hit list and also in the product detail view, you will find links to find other versions of the respective title. This often helps you reach your goal faster than if you were to start a new search. We map the following links for you:
