Author / Editor — This is a right truncated search. That is, to the right of the search term, it can continue as desired. For example, if you search for "Thomas Mann", works by authors such as "Thomas Mannheim" may also appear in the subsequent hit list.
You can also work with multiple search terms in the field. For example, if you are interested in the correspondence between Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West, simply enter "Woolf Sackville-West" (separated by spaces) in the search field. Both names must then appear in the author field in order to be considered as a hit.
EAN / ISBN / Keyword — The ISBN or EAN is an excellent way to uniquely identify an item. You can enter the ISBN or EAN with or without hyphens.
Furthermore, this search field is a true universal tool. In addition to an ISBN or EAN, you can also enter any keyword here, which covers several search fields at the same time. So if you are unsure in which field you should enter your search word, just do it here.
The following search fields will be considered:
- Author / Editor
- Description text
- EAN
- Year of publication
- ISBN
- ISSN
- Type of media
- Series
- Keywords
- Title
- Subtitle
- Publisher
Publishing date — Here you can filter by publication date. You can specify the search by year, month or even day (and also combine them).
Please note the following input formats:
- by year: YYYY (e.g. 2023)
- by month: MM/YYYY (e.g. 02/2023)
- by day: DD.MM.YYYY oder YYYYMMDD (e.g. 01.02.2023 or 20230201)
Classification — By means of this search field you can narrow down your search thematically. With a total of 2,588 classes spanning three to six levels, a wide thematic range is guaranteed. The use of the search field is particularly well suited for the following purposes:
- For example, you use the classification in combination with filters such as "media type" or "availability" as a primary search field and thus stay informed about new publications in a subject area that interests you.
- Or, when searching for "publisher" or "author", you can use the classification as a thematic narrowing factor. This is useful, for example, if you are only interested in a specific topic from a publisher with a broad range of topics.
To reduce the number of hits, it is worth avoiding upper categories and selecting the subject area as precisely as possible. Before you search for a long time, you can also save time by using the filter and typing in the desired topic.
Price — Here you can specify the price range for the hits. You do not have to name cent amounts. So if you want the price range to be between €10 and €20, it is sufficient to type in "10" and "20" instead of "10.00" and "20.00".
Series — If you are interested in a particular series, this search field is the right place for you to start.
An example: Under the series "Gelbe Erläuterungsbücher" the C.H. Beck publishing house publishes legal commentaries that are tailored to the special requirements of practice. So if you enter this designation in the "Series" search field, all the commentaries in this series will be displayed.
Schweitzer Vademecum — If you check this box, you will only be shown articles that are available in our Schweitzer Vademecum.
This is a renowned, editorially supervised specialized catalog that contains books, e-books, journals, databases and loose-leaf works from the subject areas of law and taxation.
This should be particularly useful for lawyers, tax firms, companies, municipalities and public authorities who are specifically interested in a selected range of legal books.
Title — In this field you can enter a keyword that appears in the title of an article. The word search is right-truncated, i.e. the search can continue to the right of the keyword.
Publisher — This is a right-truncated search. That is, to the right of the search word it can go on as you like. You do not have to include the word "publisher" in the search. For example, if you are looking for books published by the german Suhrkamp Verlag, simply enter "Suhrkamp" in the search field. Since the publisher is entered in our database under "Suhrkamp", the search word "Suhrkamp Verlag" would not generate any matching hits.
Complete publishing house names are also not necessary. For example, if you are interested in books published by C.H. Beck Verlag, it is sufficient to enter "Beck" instead of "C.H. Beck" as a search term. So you don't necessarily need to know the complete publishing house names.
