CHAPTER ONE
GETTING STARTED WITH ADOBE INDESIGN 2025
New Features in InDesign
Adobe InDesign 2025 will introduce some innovative, state-of-the-art features that are sure to transform user experience and make the creation process way easier. First introduced at Adobe MAX 2024, the updates regarding advanced AI capabilities, enhanced functionality, and higher performance of the program are targeted at amateur and professional designers alike.
- Generative Expand
With the help of Adobe Firefly's generative AI, one of the most exciting new capabilities in InDesign 2025 is Generative Expand, which will let users easily expand images beyond their borders. As photographs are resized, Generative Expand can fill in the gaps by examining the surrounding pixels to preserve a consistent, organic look. When attempting to fit photographs into different layouts without compromising quality, that is useful.
- Text to Image with Advanced Options
The Text to Image capability, which was first offered with the earlier AI integrations, is expanded in InDesign 2025. Now, users will be able to upload reference photos, apply style effects using an advanced dialog box, and generate images using basic text prompts, including sample prompts. Designers are able to see concepts right within the program, which streamlines the creative process.
- Export to Adobe Express
One of InDesign 2025's numerous capabilities will be the ability to export documents straight to Adobe Express. This will allow designers to make templates in InDesign and share them with clients or coworkers, who can easily modify the material using Adobe Express's user interface. This promotes cooperation and uniformity by bridging the gap between accessible editing and expert design.
- MathML Support
This has aligned it with the expectations of nearly all technical and academic publishers since InDesign 2025 finally allows for MathML support. Users can now include mathematics-based expressions in SVG format and directly edit them within the app. The integration also allows users to customize expression styles to match the tone of the rest of the document by editing font sizes, and colors, among other edits.
- Export to HTML5 Package
Additionally, the ability to export a document as an HTML5 package in InDesign 2025 has elevated digital publication to a whole new level. Additionally, this offers improved SEO and unambiguous accessibility, making the content stored on servers or websites simply accessible. Additionally, users have the option to export text as SVG tags or HTML text, providing greater control over how material is displayed and interacted with online.
- Contextual Task Bar
InDesign 2025 offers the Contextual Task Bar to further streamline workflow productivity. It provides immediate access to crucial tools and pertinent next steps, updating automatically based on the user's actions. The Contextual Task Bar reduces distractions and improves concentration when designing by keeping necessary features close at hand.
- Enhanced Cloud Document Workflows
By enabling users to save documents to the cloud and inviting partners to edit in real-time, InDesign 2025 expands cloud document processes. Aside from that, users can share papers with organizational access or public links, allowing anybody to see or change them at any time and from any location. Everyone will always have the most recent version, making teamwork a breeze.
- Enhanced Hide Spread
Manage complex documents more easily with the new enhancements for hiding spreads in InDesign 2025. The user will be able to manage the spread visibility on the pasteboard simply by using a toggle. Hidden spreads (whatever is visible on the canvas or not) will be skipped by auto page numbering, thereby keeping a clean workspace and maintaining an orderly structure of the document.
- Accessibility Updates
Significant accessibility improvements are included in InDesign 2025, which improves page breaks, tables, and figures to make it easier for assistive devices to navigate. Assistive technology can now instantly announce figcaptions thanks to the application's support for figure and figcaption tags. By adhering to best practices and accessibility standards, these improvements guarantee that papers are more usable by all users.
- UXP Enhancements
To the developers, InDesign 2025 brings a host of improvements in the UXP: besides introducing Persistent Storage to store plugin data, options for managing panel space through flyout menu options across various panels in InDesign result in added functionality, creating scope for more integrated plugins that offer advanced features in InDesign to cater to the niche requirements of specific users.
System Requirements
Adobe InDesign 2025 is among the leading and most sought-after desktop publishing software, used in developing layouts for both print and digital media. Since continuous updating with new features occurs, the software needs to comply with some system requirements stipulated by the company for effective performance. The following is an overview of system requirements prescribed by Adobe for Windows and macOS operating systems.
- Processor Requirements
To run InDesign 2025, Windows users need a multi-core Intel processor with 64-bit support or an AMD Athlon® 64 processor. The CPU should, above all, support AVX2. Version 20.x cannot be installed on older AMD CPUs or Intel® 3rd Generation processors. It needs a multicore Intel CPU or Apple silicon, such as the M1, M2, or M3, that has at least an SSE4.2 SIMD engine and AVX2 on macOS. Remarkably, neither the Mac Pro 2013 nor the earlier systems have the 20.x versions installed. Additionally, Rosetta does not support this version; nonetheless, clients running macOS can access version 20.0 on Macs with Intel and Apple chips.
- Operating System Compatibility
For Windows platforms, InDesign 2025 supports only 64-bit versions of Windows 10 and Windows 11. Currently supported versions of these operating systems are Windows 10 v21H2, v22H2; Windows 11 v22H2, v23H2. Mac users should use macOS version 12.x (Monterey), 13.x (Ventura), or 14.x (Sonoma) accordingly. Note that macOS 11.0 (Big Sur) has been largely phased out, and version 20.x cannot be installed on macOS 11.0 and all earlier versions of the operating system.
- RAM Requirements
This software requires a minimum of 8 GB RAM, though Adobe would recommend the use of 16 GB for better performance when working on large files or complex layouts.
- Storage Specifications
For installation, the installer needs an extra 3.6 GB of free hard drive space; more free space is required during the installation process. SSDs are strongly recommended because of their performance, and installation on detachable flash storage devices is not supported. 4.5 GB of free hard drive space are needed for macOS installation; more free space is needed during the process. Detachable flash storage devices and volumes with a case-sensitive file system are not compatible with installation.
- Monitor Resolution
Although a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels is advised for best viewing, 1024 x 768 pixels is the minimum display resolution. HiDPI displays are supported, and users of the InDesign Touch workspace need a tablet or monitor with a touch screen that runs Windows 10 or later and has a screen resolution of at least 2160 x 1440. A monitor resolution of 1920 x 1080 or higher is necessary for scalable user interfaces.
- GPU Performance
It takes at least 1024...
