Published from 1919 to 1923, Shadowland presented a curious blend of "art poses" of scantily-clad Hollywood stars and New York show girls together with some of the most literate articles of the day by some of the country's finest critics and essayists. It may well be regarded as a Warren G. Harding era version of Playboy, attracting writers of unqiue distinction and ability. Shadowland is now little known outside of the half-dozen libraries that still retain copies. This anthology collects articles by George Bernard Shaw, Theodore Dreiser, Frank Harris, Heywood Broun, Janet Flanner, Anna Pavlova, and Victor Herbert.
