A description of the most up-to-date analgesic and sedative techniques such as local analgesia (injections), inhalation sedation (happy air) and intravenous sedation (twilight sleep). These techniques are used for pain control in routine procedures: inhalation sedation and intravenous sedation are used to help anxious patients to cope with the stress of receiving routine dental treatment and for moderately anxious patients receiving unpleasant dental treatment such as the removal of impacted wisdom teeth. These techniques are designed to be used by dental and oral surgeons, dental anaesthetists and orthodontists working in general and hospital practice.
