Originally published in 1952 under the author's real name, Edith Pargeter, a crime novel in which four young people who have set off for a holiday in Venice change their plans after a kindly gentleman, whom they encountered on the train, is attacked; his assailant walking off with the crucial evidence of a more serious crime.
