The digitalisation of the media production process has led to fundamental changes within the journalistic work day. Journalistic products, so-called content, are once produced and then saved in a content pool in order to be used for various medial plattforms. Due to these developments, not only the borders between the online and offline world have become non-existent, but also those ones between the different journalistic professions. The today's journalist does not only need to possess knowledge about his core medium, but has to continously build up knowhow in other bordering fields. Journalism further education has to face the challenges of multi-medial qualification demands and thus has to provide the journalists with a basis for improved employment possibilities.
A European network of twelve journalism further training institutes, academies, universities and social partners developed a journalism further training concept within the frame of the LEONARDO-DA-VINCI pilot project TRIMEDIAL. Using this concept, the today's journalists may achieve qualifications for their future work.
The journalism further training concept "Modern Journalism Training for a Convergent World" is based on the results of a pilot study "Tri-Medial Working in European Local Journalism", with which the current job situation for jornalists, qualification requirements and European tri-medial journalism further education was analysed. Based on the results of the pilot study, The journalism further training concept has been developed and embraces a curriculum manual, adequate teaching material and a train-the-trainer manual.
