Sweden has since long been a favored location for international arbitration and the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce a favored arbitration institution. Finn Madsen's highly praised Commercial Arbitration in Sweden is a "ready-reference" handbook covering all cases and commentary relevant to arbitration in Sweden. Madsen comments not only on the Swedish Arbitration Act (SAA) and the Rules of the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC Rules) in the context of Swedish case law, but also provides appropriate references to international commentary. Importantly for international arbitrators and practitioners, since most international arbitrations in Sweden are conducted under the auspices of the SCC Rules, it is relevant that Madsen provides a reference to and comments upon the relevant SCC Rules in conjunction with the corresponding provisions of the SAA. Madsen aims to help practitioners "in search of rapid guidance regarding the interpretation of a particular provision...or who wish to solve a practical problem."
The Foreword to this Second Edition is written by Hans Corell, Consultant, Mannheimer Swartling, Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and the Legal Counsel of the United Nations March 1994-March 2004. The Foreword to the First Edition (which is reprinted in the Second Edition) is written by Ulf Franke, Secretary General of the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC): President of the International Federation of Commercial Institutions (IFCIA); former Secretary General of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA).
