The concept of professional construction management has emerged and developed over the past decade in response to pressures for faster and more economical project completions. This has been accompanied by increasing liability for professional construction management practitioners as well. These liability aspects of construction management have become a troublesome issue which has recently attracted considerable attention. In addition, various construction management techniques such as network-based scheduling, cost engineering, and documentation procedures have been extensively utilized to pursue or deny construction claims within our legal system. The forensic application of these construction management tools has resulted from the avalanche of litigation engulfing the construction industry. The papers presented in this publication discuss these issues. Specific areas covered include a legal profile of the construction manager, the construction manager""s liability to the client and other parties, and professional liability coverage for the construction manager.
