Roman Republican Moneyers and Their Coins 63 BC to 49 BC

Under the Roman Republic, the task of minting coinage was assigned to individual moneyers, many of whom are known only by their coins. Harlan sets out to interpret the significance of various coin designs, and to examine the role of the moneyer and the corresponding implications for the Republic itself. This particular group of 30 moneyers comes from the best-documented years of the Roman Republic. The careers of the individuals are examined and a backdrop of historic events is provided, together with the moneyer's family history.
