Writing with Reason

This book considers whether young children can be considered as authors. Each chapter suggests ways of observing and reflecting upon how children between the ages of three and seven, given freedom and encouragement, can function as authors. It presents case studies of different aspects of children's authorship from letter-writing to rule making and includes 109 examples of children's work. It aims to show how the intellectual processes which contribute to the development of a text are just as important as the final text. The author has also written "The Emergence of Literacy" and "The Literate Classroom".
