Minimally invasive techniques in urology have a long history. Early on, attempts were made to minimize surgical trauma without compromising therapeutic goals. Achievements in transurethral procedures, percutaneous renal surgery or extracorporeal shock-wave therapy are examples of minimally invasive methods. They have almost completely replaced previous standard open surgical procedures. This book addresses these developments. It contains articles by pioneers of laparoscopic urological procedures, and also by experts in related disciplines such as gynaecology, surgery, paediatric surgery and anaesthesiology.
