DOMITIAN TRAGIC TYRANT

This analysis documents Domitian's youth and his reign, as well as taking into account the main events and wars in the Empire. It covers his entire career, from the early years and the civil war of AD 69 through the years of imperial rule to the dark years and the psychology of suspicion leading to Domitian's eventual assassination. It reveals how his reputation suffered from the Senatorial decree of "damnatio memoriae" which was passed after his assassination in AD 69, and that the events of the last years overshadowed his earlier achievements, some of which were both enduring and well-advised.
