The ubiquity of metal ions in biology has led to widespread interest in metallobiochemistry among biologists, chemists and biochemists. This book serves primarily as a textbook for courses in bio-inorganic chemistry, and as a supplement for courses in general inorganic, co-ordination, or solution chemistry. It does not cover all the details of inorganic biochemistry, being intended as a concise and solid introduction. It is aimed at senior undergraduate and graduate students (US designation), as well as scientists in the following disciplines: biological, inorganic and organic chemistry; chemical and environmental engineering; specialized research in molecular biology and the medical sciences; biophysics. Building from a firm basis in organic co-ordination and reaction chemistry, the biological chemistry of metal ions is developed. Emphasis is placed on chemical principles rather than the techniques employed. Specific examples have been chosen to illustrate important general principles.
