The history of how "others" were perceived and reprensented in the past in India has hardly been consciously worked upon by historians so far. This monograph examines literary and epigraphic texts which share some similarities in order to find out how satisfactorily they convey to us the general attitude to groups of new comers to indian society in various capacities during the period under study.
