The first heavier Group 14 analogues (Ge, Sn, Pb) of alkylidene and alkylidyne complexes of rhenium and manganese were reported in this work. Electron rich rhenium(I) phosphane complexes were shown to be good starting materials for the preparation of germylidyne and stannylidyne complexes in combination with chloroylenes. Different reactions of rhenium ylidyne complexes including ylidyne fragment exchange and transfer reactions were explored. Furthermore, the tin analogue of rhenium alkylidene-alkylidyne complex was synthesized. Manganese chlorogermylidene, stannylidene and plumbylidene complexes were obtained by exposing suitable manganese metallates towards halotetrylenes. These compounds were then used as starting materials to obtain manganese germylidyne and plumbylidyne complexes by chloride abstraction.
