This full colour atlas is the first in a series of four volumes devoted to living surgical anatomy. The photographs have been taken during surgery, providing the student, surgical trainee and operating theatre nurse with a greater appreciation and understanding of living tissues and organs than would be possible through studying museum material. Anatomy is considered from the point of view of the surgeon and structure is related to function so that disturbances of structure in surgical diseases can explain symptoms, signs and deranged function. Photographs of living anatomy are supplemented by simple illustrations and radiographs.
