"The Indian Cinema Book" explores Indian cinema's extraordinary diversity and long history from the early twentieth century to the present. It carries forward existing areas of critical and research interest in Indian cinema (such as ideologies of film, the parallel cinema movement, and the star phenomenon) and also provides a fresh focus on early cinema, the role of spectacle in the form of dance and music, regional cinemas, newer star constructs, and Indian cinema's transnational connections. The collection consists of six thematic sections: Introduction, Histories, Narratives and Genres, Star and Spectacle, Regional Cinemas, and Global Contexts.
