Ireland adopted the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration in 1998, with the enactment of Arbitration (International Commercial) Act. The Model Law defines arbitration as "international" in various situations, including: where the parties have their places of business in different states; where the subject matter of the commercial agreement relates to more than one country; or where part of the obligations under the agreement are to be performed in a state other than the state where the parties have their place of business. This text provides a reference source of all relevant statutes, conventions, rules, codes of practice and also provides a useful collection of cases under the following headings: the arbitration agreement; status of arbitrators; arbitrability; arbitral procedure; substantive law; arbitration and state contracts; challenge; recognition and enforcement of awards.
