The world languages project has been developed by a team from North Westiminster Community School to accommodate the increasing consciousness of the wealth of community languages in Britain. The materials show that it is possible, and even quite easy, to learn languages with different sounds or grammatical systems from our own language and to read and write in other scipts. The course includes geo-political information, comparisons of languages, etymology and influences on English, language skills and concepts. The course includes a substantial amount of guided activities for the pupil in self contained units and forms the basis of a variety of language coursesin the first three years of the secondary school curriculum. The materials would also be ideal as an introduction to foreign language learning, as part of a language rotation course or in preparation for language option choices.
