Sword and Shield
Basic principles and technique of medieval buckler combat
The unarmoured combat with sword and buckler was the most widely used martial art of the european middle ages.
On this DVD, Roland Warzecha and Tobias Wenzel bring that way of combat nearer to the viewer. Based on medieval fencing manuscripts and years of martial arts experience, the authors impart the basic fundamentals of sword and buckler fencing. These include anatomical and physical regularities, as well as the tactical approach and fencing theory.
All relevant concepts are explained step by step and demonstrated through historical techniques. The authors present appropriate protective gear and training weapons for practice and freeplay. Finally, freeplay sequences give an impression of the athletic application of the historical buckler techniques.
