Greek Vases in the British Museum

The British Museum has one of the finest collections of Greek vases in the world. The elegant shapes and designs of the pots bear witness to the high artistic standards which the potters and painters achieved. The delicate painted scenes reveal details about Greek customs, religion, fashions and family life. This video uses many of the vases in the British Museum collection to explore the techniques employed to create the black figure and the later red figure vases, and shows the various shapes used. It also looks in detail at how everyday life and myths and legends of Ancient Greece were illustrated by the vase painters.
