Following the story of "Alice" from its first beginnings, this video draws on the Dodgson and Liddell family collection at Christ Church, Oxford, and on the extensive collection of material at the British Library, which includes the original manuscript, the suppressed and authorized first editions of "Wonderland", and Lewis Carroll's surviving diaries. Read by Brett Usher and Robin Herford, the video tells the story of the writing of "Wonderland', the river picnic, the hand-written book and the curious tale of the first editions. It was filmed on location around Oxford and in the hidden garden at Christ Church, and by examining diaries, manuscripts and photographs rarely seen in public.
