for organ solo
The syncopated Toccatina is influenced by pop music as well as the music of South America, while the use of repeated notes is derived from Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck. The piece will be effective on any size of instrument, providing a joyous lift at the end of a service or in a recital.
Rezensionen / Stimmen
This is a lively and very approachable piece, the character is anything but serious, so it might be useful as a voluntary only after a very lively (or a childrens) service. Duration around 3 minutes, as a little recital piece it would lighten any programme and would make a really excellent encore. it is perhaps the nearest to mid-20th century pop music that Ive ever heard presented as organ music! From the point of view of anything but the most staid listener, I have no hesitation in saying its a winner.
As to difficulty, slowed down a little in order to read the slightly tricky rhythm accurately, anyone who has passed Grade 7 or 8 Associated Board should be able to read the majority of it at sight. The piece needs two manuals, but it would sound good on even a very modest-sized instrument.
Highly Recommended. * Paul Derrett, Organ Club Journal, February 2022 *
