This collection brings together all of Rawsthorne's popular piano works, re-engraved, lightly edited, and with an introduction by John McCabe. Rawsthorne had an intuitive understanding of the piano and showed great brilliance in writing for it. This is a rich selection of original material with great appeal for all pianists seeking rewarding and imaginative contemporary repertoire.
Rezensionen / Stimmen
Rawsthorne is lauded as one of the most individual British composers of the 20th century and these Selected Piano Pieces, which bring together all of his most popular work, validate such claims. The four Bagatelles typify Rawsthorne's intuitive understanding of the piano and present an emotionally varied and harmonically ambiguous journey, from the dynamic opening allegro to the final tranquil lento in 12/8. A refined Sonatina, Four Romantic Pieces, Theme and Four Studies and The Creel (an approachable duet suite about fish - live ones) follow. Fresh contemporary material with wide appeal for the intermediate pianist and above. * Alec Boulton, Music Teacher August 05 * . . . for GBP14.95, you can now have four terrific works plus the inimitable, delightful duet set called The Creel. None of this is easy but all of it has character and pianistic integrity and should definitely bring new admirers to this fine composer. My tip of the month. * John York, Piano Magazine May 05 *
