"The Photographing of America is a large order - read at all literally, the phrase would be an absurdity," wrote Robert Frank in his application for a Guggenheim Fellowship in Photography in 1954.
Six contemporary photographers following in Robert Frank's footsteps, are well aware of the inherent absurdity of photographing the entire United States. Instead of taking on the task alone, they are going at it together, working in collaboration while honing their individual perspectives. And in the process, they are forming a new wave in American photography.
This limited-edition, seven-book set brings together photographers Zak Krevitt, Molly Matalon, Corey Olsen, Pat O'Malley, Tim Schutsky, and Caroline Tompkins - through the books' editor, Joseph Maida, their mentor and fellow artist, who taught them as undergraduate students at New York's School of Visual Arts from 2010-2014.
Included in the set is a monographic volume by each photographer edited by Maida as well as a compilation book in which Maida constellates their work in a dynamic visual conversation through a thought-provoking edit and sequence.

Zak Krevitt's work lives within his commitment to queer advocacy and represents his lived experiences both public and private. Their work also deals heavily in concepts of transformation, post-humanism, power-exchange, anthropology, and the ability to create authenticity through photographic crystallization of reified desire. For over a decade, they have been working with, marching for, and fundraising alongside his queer community for a variety of related causes. Most recently they began long distance cycling while making their photographs, in conjunction with fundraising efforts for HIV/AIDS. Krevitt is also a professor in the School of Visual Arts BFA Photography and Video Department in NYC under the guidance of Joseph Maida. He hopes to impart a spirit of activism, adventure, community and creative expansion to his students.
Molly Matalon is a photographer born and raised in South Florida. She received her BFA in Photography from The School of Visual Arts in New York City. This sincere and personal language is carried through into her editorial work, which has been published in The New York Times, M, Le Monde, Interview Magazine, and Wallpaper*, among others. Vuu studio has published two monographs of her work, which has also been exhibited in the United States and internationally. Matalon currently lives and works in New York.

He is originally from Omaha, Nebraska.
