for SSAATTBB and organ
Mack Wilberg's Hosanna in excelsis is an adaptation of Johann Pachelbel's well-known Canon in D, P 37 that sets the words 'Hosanna in excelsis Deo' in the carefully interwoven choral part. With the famed ground bass in the organ pedal part, the piece builds steadily in texture and dynamic, climaxing in ardent swells, all while maintaining a contemplative nature.
The organ part may be adapted for piano four-hands with the secondo player doubling the organ pedal part in octaves.
