Computer-animated presentations of time-varying physiological functions of the brain are presented in this study, which also includes computer-animated instruction. The disk is divided into 11 animated teaching modules (averaging 10-15 minutes each), covering a wide variety of topics that are difficult to convey using static textbook illustrations such as: the movement of ions across the membrane; the movement of the action potential along an axon; vesicle mobilization; transmitter binding/channel opening; second messenger activation; neural network function; and lateral inhibition. The disk serves as a tool for transmitting information which is difficult to explain orally.
