This electronic product provides a silvicultural guide to the characteristics of tree species. The "Forestry Compendium" concept includes species data sheets (prepared by experts worldwide), pictures, maps, bibliographies, abstracts, a glossary and a user notepad. In addition, there is an alternative guide to species selection based on site characteristics, management objectives and end products. Module 1 includes over 600 tree and shrub species important in tropical and subtropical climatic areas in the Asia-Pacific Region. Coverage includes indigenous and exotic species of interest for plantation forestry and\or regeneration and multipurpose species for agroforestry. The compendium which has many African and Neotropical species as well as those of the Asia-Pacific region, contains information on around 40 per cent of species important in worldwide plantation forestry.
