María Gabriela Lagorio holds a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Sciences and a Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences (Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences, University of Buenos Aires, 1991). She served as the Director of the Department of Inorganic, Analytical, and Physical Chemistry at the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences, University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, between 2022 and 2024 and she is currently President of the Argentine Society of Environmental Science and Technology.
Within the same department, she also holds the position of Professor and serves as a Principal Researcher at the Instituto de Química Física de los Materiales, Medio Ambiente y Energía (INQUIMAE-CONICET). Her research interests encompass the field of biophotonics, with a primary focus on the roles of fluorescence and reflectance in living organisms, chlorophyll fluorescence, photosynthesis, environmental photochemistry, optical techniques for assessing vegetation health, and the significance of leaf reflectance in satellite-based monitoring systems. She has made significant contributions to the academic community through a series of publications, including eight journal covers in notable journals such as PNAS, Acc. Chem. Res., J. Zoology, Photochem. Photobiol. Sci., and more (PNAS, 2020, 202006771, Acc. Chem. Res., 2019, 52, 110; PNAS, 2017, 114, 3672; South Am. J. Herpetol., 12, 2017, 1; J.
