Patents for enhanced electricity grids

The study combines the expertise of the IEA and the EPO and is the most comprehensive, global and up-to-date investigation so far of patenting in the area of key electricity grid issues and opportunities. The report maps electricity grid-related technologies to patent data with both relevance and precision. The analysis aims to include all technologies that are being pursued to help address the three key challenges identified in the report. To reflect policy interest in the progress of smart grids, the technologies are divided into those that primarily relate to the physical grid and those that are primarily related to smart grid technologies.
