Volker Henning Drecoll kontextualisiert Basilius' Homilien zum Hexaemeron im exegetischen Diskurs über Genesis 1 in der Mitte des 4. Jahrhunderts n. Chr. Basilius wurde eher von diesem Diskurs als von Origenes beeinflusst. Der oft angenommene "Origenismus" des Basilius wird hinterfragt und mit dem seines Bruders Gregor von Nyssa kontrastiert.
