Der vorliegende Band beschäftigt sich mit Textamuletten der Levante aus dem 1. Jahrtausend vor und nach Chr., die in westsemitischen Sprachen verfasst wurden. Die Inschriften bezeugen die Ängste der Menschen, die Gefahren, denen sie mit Amuletten begegnen wollten, und die übernatürlichen Mächte, an die sie sich um Hilfe wandten. Amulette waren für den antiken Menschen Mittel der Angstbewältigung und Kommunikation mit übernatürlichen Mächten. Sie sind wertvolle Quellen für das Studium der Religionsgeschichte, der historischen Anthropologie und der interreligiösen Forschung.
