Alcohol is the most widely consumed and frequently abused drug in Great Britain today. Only a small percentage of the adult population are total abstainers, and evidence suggests that by the age of 13, the majority of children have had some experience of drinking alcohol. This alcohol education package, part of an evaluation study conducted by the Alcohol Research Group at Edinburgh University, is structured to help young people acquire the information and skills necessary to make responsible decisions about alcohol, and to develop an awareness and appreciation of the effects of alcohol consumption upon themselves and those around them. The complete package has been designed for use either as a free-standing module of approximately four hours total teaching time or ultimately as part of a broader social/health education programme.
