The following attempt to sketch a history of the present state of medicine among the natives of Africa, and to give some account of those diseases to which they are more peculiarly liable, was undertaken during the calamitous and distressed state to which the colony of Sierra Leone was reduced, in consequence of the depredations committed there by the French, in the year 1794.
