Georgiana Assadi

Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing, King's College London, UK.

Georgiana began her career in 2009, studying mental health nursing at Kingston University. She has had a diverse range of clinical and corporate experiences, from working in the private sector, in the NHS and within a 'Unicorn' health tech start-up. Clinically, she has worked within neurodisability and mental health, psychiatric intensive care, community secondary mental health services, crisis response, integrated care and as a clinical tutor. Georgiana started her lecturing career at the University of West London in 2018, where she went onto become college lead for inter-professional learning, before moving to King's College London in February 2022. Educationally, she teaches on several of the undergraduate nursing courses, and has developed mental health teaching on non-nursing courses such as the Paramedic Science, Social Work and Operating Department Practitioner programmes, with great success. Her areas of interest include integration within health and social care, achieving parity between mental health and physical health, wellbeing, mental health clinical skills and innovation within teaching and has published work in all of these areas.

Mary E. Braine

Senior Lecturer, School of Health and Society, University of Salford.

Mary completed her nurse training at University College Hospital, London, and worked initially in orthopaedic/trauma care and gastroenterology, before moving into neuroscience care. In addition to undertaking specialist education and training in neuroscience nursing, her neuroscience experience extends over 30 years, progressing through various clinical posts including ward manager, matron and practice development lead, before leaving clinical practice to start a career in nurse education and research. Mary teaches across several curricula, including BSc Pre-Registration Nursing and MSc Advanced Clinical Practice. She is author and co-author of several articles, book chapters on neuroscience nursing and nurse education, and joint author of the book Supporting Families and Carers: a nursing perspective. Mary is the service user and care lead in nursing at the University of Salford, working towards continuous quality improvement through providing a network of service users and carers sharing their knowledge and experiences. She is President of the British Association of Neuroscience Nurses (BANN), a member of the World Federation of Neuroscience Nurses (WFNN) and an editorial board member of the British Journal of Neuroscience Nursing. Her key interests include acquired brain injury and the impact of caregiving on family caregivers.

Charlotte Bramanis

MNurs, PGCert CYP, DipHE Paed Nurs, FHEA

Senior Lecturer and Course Lead in Children's Nursing, and Professional Lead for Children's Nursing and Learning Disabilities Nursing, University of West London.

Charlotte began her career in 1997 studying children's nursing at the Thames Valley University (now the University of West London), before taking up a staff nurse post at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in the general paediatric ward. In 2003, she moved to Western Australia to work in the only paediatric facility in the state, at the Princess Margaret Hospital. During that time, she worked in accident and emergency, oncology, neonatal intensive care and diagnostic imaging. After 15 years in Australia, she returned to the UK to start her career in lecturing with the University of West London. Educationally, Charlotte teaches on the Pre-Registration and Nursing Associate course at the university and has contributed to the new high-quality nursing curriculum. She has been awarded Lecturer of the Year twice in her 3-year tenure, and is currently developing a curriculum for the Masters Degree in Nursing course.

Colin Cameron

Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, Northumbria University Colin is a senior lecturer at Northumbria University, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He teaches sociology and philosophy on undergraduate degrees in Guidance & Counselling and Health & Social Care, and he supervises postgraduate students on various disability studies research projects. He has been active in the disabled people's movement for 30 years. He is a director of Shaping Our Lives, the national network of service user-led organisations, and an executive editor of the international journal Disability and Society. His Stuckist paintings have been exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts.

Carl Clare

Senior Lecturer, Department of Adult Nursing and Primary Care, School of Health and Social Work, University of Hertfordshire.

Carl began his nursing career in 1990 as a nursing auxiliary. He later undertook 3 years of student nurse training at Selly Oak Hospital (Birmingham), moving to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospitals, then Northwick Park Hospital, and finally the Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Trust as a resuscitation officer and honorary teaching fellow of Imperial College London. Since 2006, he has worked at the University of Hertfordshire as a senior lecturer in adult nursing. His key areas of interest are long-term illness, physiology, sociology, endocrinology and cardiac care.

Nigel Davies

MSc, BSc (Hons), PGDip, Cert Ed, RN, SFHEA

Professor of Interprofessional Learning, College of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences, Brunel University, London.

Nigel graduated with a first-class Honours degree from South Bank Polytechnic in 1990. His clinical practice, across several London hospitals, was in general medicine, cardiothoracic surgery and critical care. He became a lecturer practitioner and then senior lecturer in the late 1990s and then moved into nursing management roles with responsibility for practice development and quality improvement. For over 10 years he was a director of nursing and director of infection prevention and control in two acute trusts. He has undertaken research relating to nursing policy and practice, and has published widely in peer-reviewed journals. He was head of nursing and programme lead for the BSc Nursing course at the University of East London before moving to his current role in 2021, leading interprofessional education at Brunel University London. He is also an external examiner for the Masters Degree in Nursing at the University of Sheffield.

Joanne Day

Senior Lecturer in Nursing Education, Edge Hill University.

Jo came into nursing as a mature student, having previously worked in retail and administration roles. She studied at the University of Southampton, qualifying as a registered nurse in 2007. Since qualifying, she has enjoyed the flexibility that a nursing career provided to move around while her husband served in the Armed Forces and she raised her family. She has worked in a variety of settings, including overseas. Within the NHS, she has worked in cardiothoracic (medical and surgical) and emergency care. Away from the NHS, she has also worked as a school nurse and a disability analyst. In 2017, Jo moved into an academic setting as a lecturer in practice learning followed by a role as practice lead. Educationally, Jo teaches on pre-registration courses for the university and has a strong interest in improving the clinical practice experiences for pre-registration students, particularly those with SpLD.

Hilarious De Jesus

Lecturer in Neonatology and Child Health, City, University of London.

Harry is an overseas-trained nurse from the Philippines. He migrated and practised in the UK as a staff nurse in 2010, working in a Level 3 neonatal intensive care unit in London. In 2012, he decided to move into clinical research, looking at nursing in paediatrics. During his time as a children's research nurse, he worked on several commercial and government clinical trials. As a research nurse, he helped facilitate the licensing of ground-breaking treatments for some chronic conditions, such as inflammatory bowel disease, Fabry disease and eczema. He eventually took up the post of senior research nurse with the North Thames Clinical Research Network. The post involves the propagation of the research portfolio within the region, improvement of access into research within diverse communities and enhancing the profile of clinical research among different stakeholders. During the pandemic, Harry served with one of the faculties that started the Nightingale Hospitals in London. He still practises as a paediatric/neonatal intensive care nurse on top of his academic role. Harry joined academia in 2020. He lectures on various nursing subjects such as healthcare law, ethics, communication and clinical skills. He has innovated practice by planning and implementing pedagogical techniques such as Socratic seminars, online debates, online peer models of learning and virtual clinical skills. His main...
