He was Head of the Department of Theater and Film Studies, Dean of Arts and Director of the Institute of African Studies at the University of Nigeria. An alumnus of Eastern Michigan University and Bowling Green State University, Ohio, he was Chairman of the Division of Humanities at Edward Waters University, Jacksonville, Florida, participant in the international Writing Program of the University of Iowa, where he earned an Honorary Fellowship in Writing, Visiting Scholar at the University of Eswatini, Southern Africa, Visiting International Professor at Randolph College, Lynchburg, Virginia, and Founding Professor of Theater at the Academy for the Performing Arts of the University of Trinidad and Tobago.
