The quantum Hall effect emerging in electron gases systems facilitates research into the existence of novel topological phases. These topological phases exhibit gapped band structures and can support chiral edge and surface modes which are absent in ordinary insulators, called topological insulators. Over the last forty years, owing to the exotic properties and the potential application in topological devices, research in the topological insulators in various materials have become one of the central topics for physical science and engineering. In recent years, the topological insulator and semimetal emerging in magnonic and magnetic solitonic systems have attracted much interest due to their interesting physics and potential applications for designing novel spintronic devices.
This book gives an overview of current progress of topological phases in structured classical magnetism, which provides an important reference for designing novel topological spintronic devices. The text explores basic topological models and provides readers with an overall understanding of topological phases and phase transitions in magnetic systems. References to important original literature are included throughout as well as extended reading. The concepts of topological magnonic devices proposed in the book encourage researchers to design real topological spintronic devices. The methods for studying topological phases in this book can extend to other systems, which enables readers to find new topological materials. The key audiences for this text include researchers in the field of topological magnetism and research institutes.
