In this book a general matrix-based approach to modeling electricalmachines is promulgated. The model uses instantaneous quantitiesfor key variables and enables the user to easily take into accountassociations between rotating machines and static converters (suchas in variable speed drives). General equations ofelectromechanical energy conversion are established early in thetreatment of the topic and then applied to synchronous, inductionand DC machines. The primary characteristics of these machines areestablished for steady state behavior as well as for variable speedscenarios.
Important new applications for this technology (such as windturbines, electric propulsion systems for large ships, etc.) areaddressed and the book is illustrated with a large number ofinformative and detailed photographs, provided by various companiesat the leading edge of research and applications in the field.
