Fisher Row was created as a consequence of the Castle Mill, recorded in the Domesday Book on the western edge of Oxford. This book records the myriad changes that have taken place on the Oxford Canal and on the rivers Thames and Cherwell, Oxford's watery fringes. Although the history of these areas was shaped by the fishermen and boatmen who settled there, and by the Dissolution of the monasteries that once dominated the landscape, there is more to see.
