Based on feedback that Penguin received from teachers and school librarians, the main obstacle that educators face when trying to get their learners to read more (or even at all) is the lack of suitable, inspiring material. The Penguin readers series looks to tackle this challenge by providing children between the ages of 8 and 12 with books that they want to read. 2010 will see the publication of readers, written by award winning children's authors Lesley Beake and Jay Heale, focusing on former and current soccer stars.
