Rhiannon lives in Wales 58-60 AD when the Romans, led by Suetonius Paulinus, arrive on the isle of Anglesey from the North of England. The people of her village fight bravely but are defeated, and many are killed, including her own family. The Romans recognise that Rhiannon is a brave fighter and take her to Rome to become a Gladiator and fight for her life.
