This book facilitates the study of different topics in Condensed Matter Physics with the necessary concepts and techniques. It also connects modern experimental discoveries with theoretical advancements that have been developed over the years in a pedagogical manner. The text introduces the interacting and non-interacting aspects of fermionic systems. However, before embarking on the role of electronic correlations, the book describes the behaviour of free electrons in a magnetic field, and hence illustrates the physics of quantization of the Hall plateaus which lays the foundation of a modern perspective as the name suggests. The roles of topology and symmetry in understanding material properties are emphasized through paradigmatic models and physical systems that have enriched our understanding of the basic notion of topological insulators.
The text explores the role of interactions to explain topics such as Magnetism and Superconductivity. Topics such as Bose Einstein condensation and superfluid properties of atomic systems in optical lattices are discussed and the book offers a range of topics covered in a pedagogical way for students.
This course text is specifically aimed at students who have completed at least one introductory course on solid state physics. Research institutes and specialized labs on material science, magnetic materials, superconductivity and semiconductor physics are also a key audience.
