Chapter One
Creation of the World
(1) The First Day (Creation of Light) (Verses 1-5)
(2) The Second Day: Creation of the Sky (Verses 6-8)
(3) The Third Day: Creation of the Earth and Plants (Verses 9-13)
(4) The Fourth Day: Creation of the Sun, Moon, and Stars (Verses 14-19)
(5) The Fifth Day: Creation of Sea Creatures and Birds (Verses 20-23)
(6) The Sixth Day: Creation of Land Animals and Man (Verses 24-31)
(1) The First Day (Creation of Light) (Verses 1-5)
1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form and void, and darkness was on the face of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. 3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So, the evening and the morning were the first day.
How did light precede the creation of the sun which came on the fourth day?!
The light referred to here is the creation of cosmic galaxies, each carrying millions of stars and hundreds of millions of planets, with each planet, each star, and each galaxy rotating around itself at a very high speed. This entire cosmic entity (the galaxies) and what permeates them is referred to as light, which is a luminous entity that preceded the appearance of the sun that we know.
Commentary:
The priest's comment is incorrect because God created the earth before the heavens. How can galaxies be created before heavens?
(2) The Second Day: Creation of the Sky (Verses 6-8)
6 And God said, "Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters." 7 Thus God made the firmament and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament. And it was so.
Commentary:
How do trees, grass, and fruit grow without sunlight?
(4) The fourth day: Creation of the sun, moon, and stars (verses 14-19)
14 And God said, "Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years. 15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of heaven to give light upon the earth." And it was so. 16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. 17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, 18 and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
Book of Genesis
Genesis
(King James Version)
Chapter 1
In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.
And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.
And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
And God said, "Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters."
And God made the firmament and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
And God said, "Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear:" and it was so.
And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called the Seas. And God saw that it was good.
And God said, "Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth." And it was so.
And the earth brought forth grass and herbs yielding seed after its kind, and trees bearing fruit, whose seed is, after its kind. And God saw that it was good.
And the evening and the morning were the third day.
And God said, "Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years."
And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth." And it was so.
Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also.
And God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth,
and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.
And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
And God said, "Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens."
So, God created the great sea creatures, and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
And God blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth."
And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
And God said, "Let the earth bring forth the living creatures according to its kind: cattle and creeping things and beasts of the earth, each according to its kind." And it was so.
And God made the beasts of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."
So, God created man in His own image; in the image of God, He created him; male and female He created them.
And God blessed them and said to them: Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.
And God said, "Here I have given you every herb that yields seed on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food.
And to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food." And it was so.
And God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So, the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
Commentary:
We can analyze this passage scientifically and logically to understand the image of creation.
The Lord created the universe in six days, and each day consists of 24 hours.
However, science states that the universe was created over billions of years; thus, this part is incorrect, and no one can believe that the creator of the universe does not know how long it took to create it.
This can express a duration of time, whatever that duration may be.
On the first day, the Lord created light, night, and day.
On the fourth day, the Lord created the source of light, namely the stars and the sun.
It is illogical that the light produced from the sun existed on the first day, while the sun, as the source of light, was created on the fourth day.
Scientifically and logically, it is incorrect for the source of an occurrence to come after the occurrence itself.
The author of this book made a serious error in the first part concerning the creation of the universe, which is greater than the creation of man; how can we believe what comes after that?
On the third day, the Lord created fruits, and on the fourth day, He created the sun. Scientifically, this is incorrect because fruits cannot live without sunlight, which is another mistake.
On the fourth day, God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night; scientifically, this is incorrect because the light emitted from the moon reflects sunlight.
