This book offers a current image of modern mechanics. The book reflects current state of the art in the field of continuum mechanics and mechanics of structures including recent achievements in classic and non-classic approaches. The chapters are written by leading specialist in the field, so the book collects cutting edge investigations in the field. As a target we consider the society starting from beginners, i.e. master and PhD students, and also leaders in the field, that is professors of universities and civil, mechanical and aerospace engineers.
Professor Dr.-Ing.habil. Dr.h.c.mult. Holm Altenbach is Member of the International Association of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics and the International Research Center on Mathematics and Mechanics of Complex Systems (M&MoCS), Italy. He has held positions at the Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg and Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, both in Germany. He graduated from Leningrad Polytechnic Institute in 1980 (diplomain Dynamics and Strength of Machines) and was awarded his Ph.D. degree in 1983 and his Doctor of Technical Sciences degree in 1987 at the same Institute. Until October 2022, he was a full professor of Engineering Mechanics at the Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Institute of Mechanics. His areas of scientific interest include: General theory of elastic and inelastic plates and shells, Creep and damage mechanics, Strength theories, and Nano- and micromechanics.
He is author/co-author/editor of 100 books, 590 scientific papers (360 of which were peer-reviewed) and 590 scientific lectures. He was the Managing Editor (2004 to 2014) and has been Editor-in-Chief (since 2006) of the Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (ZAMM) - the oldest journal in mechanics in Germany (founded by Richard von Mises in 1921). He is the Advisory Editor of the journal Continuum Mechanics and Thermodynamics (Springer), Associate Editor of the journal Mechanics of Composites (Riga) and Co-editor of the Springer Series "Advanced Structured Materials".
He is the author/editor of 22 books written in Russian/English/Spanish, author/co-author of ca. 300 scientific peer-reviewed papers indexed by Scopus/Web of Science. He is a member of editorial board of the following journals: Acta Mechanica; Archive of Applied Mechanics; CMES; Mathematics and Mechanics of Complex Systems; Mathematics and Mechanics of Solids; Mechanics of Composite Materials; Mechanics Research Communications; Symmetry; Technische Mechanik; Nanomechanics Science and Technology: An International Journal; Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (ZAMM); PNRPU Mechanics Bulletin. He was awarded with the International Prize "Tullio Levi-Civita" for the Mathematical and Mechanical Sciences - 2018.
The chapters will be devoted to nonlinear elasticity.- 2. Theory of plates and shells.- 3. Surface elasticity.- 4.Micropolar, micromorphic and microstretch media.- 5. Micromechanics.- 6. Theory of dislocations and diclinations.- 7. Strain gradient elasticity and plasticity.

Systemvoraussetzungen:
