Cornelis Gerard Anton de Kom was a Surinamese resistance fighter. His only book, We Slaves of Suriname, made him a prominent anti-colonialist author. He was part of the Dutch resistance and the Communist Party in The Hague after the German occupation of the Netherlands in 1940. He died after being sent to a German concentration camp in 1945.
Antonio Carmona Baez is a lecturer in Political and Social Science at the University of Puerto Rico at Bayamon and has taught International Relations and International Political Economy at the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Karwan Fatah-Black lectures at Leiden University on historical globalisation from the early modern period to the present. His specialism is the early modern history of European colonialisation, trade and enslavement overseas.
