This novel is a fresh reading about post-apartheid young women who still find themselves being the single parents as in days of apartheid when their 'free' husbands deserted them for city life. Most of the women become victims of physical and emotional abuse at the hands of their in-laws.
Izibi ZaseThekwini also explores the lives of the marginalized street population, especially women and children who get pushed out for a variety of social circumstances, and end sleeping in streets and bridges. To some, this behaviour may look like choice. It is not. It is the better evil, so to put it.
