It elucidates the imagery, the symbolism, evocative language, biblical and mythological motifs, the rich battery of literary devices with which the greatest writer of Spain since Cervantes converts unconscious material into literature. The works covered represent a period of artistic apprenticeship and ideological struggle within Galdos's mind.
