The programming language Lisp is used extensively, particularly in artificial intelligence applications. This work gives an overview of the language and its current state of implementation. Emphasis is placed upon hardware support, and on parallel Lisp dialects for multiprocessor systems, and for this BaLinda Lisp is used as an example. The authors have written this book for readers with some experience of Lisp programming and knowledge of computer languages and architectures. Readers should gain from the book an understanding of the computer science concepts used in Lisp and how they relate to concepts used more widely in language design, parallel processing and computer architecture. This book should be of interest to graduate students, professionals and researchers using Lisp.
