Golf is one of the most unique sports in the world. The game is structured by a rigid set of rules and has equipment standards more detailed and specific than anything else played. Importantly, golf is experienced on a very personal level as players face a bewildering array of physical and mental challenges over the course of 18 holes of play. In many respects, the effort, time, and commitment a player devotes to the game is reflective of many aspects of a player's life outside of the fairways and greens.
This is a review and description of the many components of emotional and mental interplay that are experienced while playing the game of golf. Importantly, it is an attempt to describe not how to play the game, but rather an effort to disarticulate and describe how a golfer thinks about the game.
Quite simply, golf reveals character. The person revealed often interacts and performs similarly in the world outside of golf. This book reviews how the innumerable obstacles and hazards-both external and internal and, both on and off the golf course, are related. The game of golf can mirror life and can show us deeply personal aspects of ourselves. Perhaps through this examination we can become better at understanding ourselves both on and off the course.
